Psychotherapy Consultation and Bespoke Training

The Family Institute provides psychotherapy services for individuals (children and adults), couples, and families (including family therapy) , consultation services for professionals and teams and bespoke training

  • We regard psychotherapy and consultation as a process which brings about beneficial change. This, we achieve through particular kinds of conversations with our clients.
  • We aim to enable clients to make the kinds of changes they they need to make, in establishing better ways of being in their roles and relationships.
  • Meetings usually last an hour, and are arranged at a frequency that suits you.

The Institute is discretely situated on the University of South Wales’s Lower Glyntaf campus.

There is a reception area, and waiting room adjoining the consultation rooms where the therapists meet with you.

We are easily accessible from the A470, and 10 minutes walk from Treforest Railway Station. Reserved parking is available for The Family Institute clients.

If you are interested in any of these services or in finding out more please contact us.

The Family Institute offers an independent psychotherapy service for individual adults and children, families or couples. The service might be Family Therapy (with more than one member of a family), or Consultations with individuals.

  • We regard the therapy process as a specialist conversation, where you discuss your experience of problems within a safe and supportive context. Therapists help you to make the changes you wish to make in your lives.
  • When you call us to make a referral we will discuss with you who you think should attend the first appointment. You may come individually, with your partner, any significant other or your family.
  • Meetings usually last an hour, the first one, and any subsequent ones are arranged in negotiation with you.
  • We offer the opportunity of working with a therapist and a small group of consulting colleagues who form a therapy team, working using a one-way mirror and telephone link. We find this way of working effective because colleagues can pay attention to different points of view, offer useful ideas and be available to offer immediate feedback and consultation to you and your therapist. You can choose to work with a single therapist if you prefer.
  • You will see a Clinical Associate supervised live by a qualified Consultant Systemic Psychotherapist.

This and all other details will be discussed with you at the time of referral. If you wish to learn more, please download our brochure Family Institute Brochure 2019 (English).pdf

The Family Institute offers a consultation service to individual practitioners, teams and organisations. The service might be a single meeting or a series of meetings held over a more extended period of time.

  • We regard a consultation process as a specialist conversations held to explore, better understand or enhance practices relevant to therapy, education, health, social care or organizational development. These conversations take place to help the consultee make changes or developments in their context or situation in the most useful ways.
  • Consultations with individuals (practitioners and professionals) are usually limited to a specific number of meetings and are usually meant to address specific matters relevant at a particular time and in a particular context e.g. feeling stuck with aspects of practice or a particular piece of work; looking to make a change in relation to an organisation or employment.
  • Consultations with teams and organisations are also usually limited to a specific number of meetings and are usually designed to enhance or enable change and reflection on practices e.g. team reviews, addressing change in an organisation’s practice or structure.
  • When you call us to arrange a consultation we will negotiate with you directly about the best way to meet; who it will be relevant to include in any meetings and where any meetings might best occur. The negotiations help us to ensure the greatest ‘fit’ for you. These and all other details including costs will be discussed with you directly.

The Family Institute offers Bespoke Systemic Training Services to teams and organisations. This will often be sought when a team or organisation wish to design or re-design, enhance or develop their services in ways which reflect greater systemic awareness, and want the advantage of learning together within their practice context.

  • Bespoke Systemic Training can include training on how to integrate systemic ideas into existing practices in health, social care, education and other related areas of practice.
  • Bespoke trainings are negotiated with the staff of The Family Institute and will include a curriculum designed to fit best the needs of the team or organisation. It usually does not carry assessment of students learning or access to the learning resources offered by the University to its own students. For this reason the costs of running bespoke training is more modest for each participant.

When you call us to arrange bespoke training we will negotiate with you directly about the best way to deliver the training; who it will be relevant to include and where the training might best occur. The negotiations help us to ensure the greatest ‘fit’ for you.

These and all other details including costs will be discussed with you directly.
